Did you all see the instagram post about our sensory walk? It was a fabulous motor group morning. Each student took turns experiencing different sensory textures on their feet! Kids stepped in: crunchy fruit loops, slimy jello, damp grass, popped popcorn, big pumpkin, shaving cream, dry oatmeal and ending with a water foot bath. Today the sensory fun continued with spaghetti a-la plenty with brightly colored spaghetti and with seek and find items. Halloween is Tuesday!! What is everybody’s costumes? Will you be trick-or-treating? I think I am going to miss our parade practice walks! The school parade starts at 8:15, our school day will still start at 8:30 once everyone has arrived and has settled in we will join the parade that has begun on the upper playground. We will do one lap around the playground walking on the road outline on the pavement. After completing our lap we will come back into the classroom and continue our facilitated play time. Parking will probably be challenging on Tuesday since other families will be watching the parade. If you would like to stay and watch the parade you can join the other viewers on the upper playground. The entire walk from door-to-door is about 25 minutes.

Harvest Festival this weekend! This Saturday October 21 from 11:30-3:30 there is a FREE event here at Live Oak put on by the PTA. Pumpkins, cakes, games, magic show, oh my! Drop by anytime and stay for as long as your heart desires. For more information visit harvest.liveoakpta.net This week in K-1: The song, There is a Spider on the Floor, has been lots of fun to sing during circle time. I have a little spider ring and it slowly crawls up our bodies ends up on our heads, jumps off and lands back on the floor. Our morning roll call activity is going swimmingly. Everyone takes turn handing a friend their pumpkin name card for them to put on the whiteboard. Recognizing peers, our names, waiting for our turn, and completing a multi-step direction is all being developed on a daily basis. Fortunately, the air quality has improved and we have been able to practice for our Halloween parade. We have been practicing walking with a walking rope around the upper playground. What is everyone going to be for Halloween? The preschool team has been hard at work at our surprise costumes! Some weeks I only bring my purse and lunch bag, other weeks I seem to bring in everything I own. Fall has so many sensory aspects and decorations, I happily brought in a few things. :) Due to the air quality we have spent a majority of the week inside during the school day. Staff has put backpacks on hooks and taken out and put away the yummy snacks. During inside recess the wonderful paraprofessionals have created movement courses in the classroom with stepping stones, bouncy balls, and turned our cube chairs into steps to climb over. The dramatic play area that was turned into a pumpkin patch! Exploring the new sensory table has also been out during this time.
Safety and Fun are Number 1 is my moto! To keep up to date on the air quality and the district response, hopefully you are receiving e-mails from Elizabeth Graswich and from Live Oak Principal Nadine Rosenzweig. For more information about the Bay Area Air Quality, visit http://www.baaqmd.gov/about-air-quality/current-air-quality. For the most recent Spare the Air numbers see the links below: http://www.sparetheair.org/stay-informed/todays-air-quality/five-day-forecast http://www.sparetheair.org/stay-informed/todays-air-quality/air-quality-index When the district and school says to come directly to the classroom, the front door will be unlocked by 7:55 AM. Please come right in, staff will hang up backpacks and take out snacks. New circle time books: EEK! Halloween! 5 Little Pumpkins Pumpkin Shapes In the upcoming weeks and depending on the air quality we will be begin to practice for Halloween. From discussions with the office and other Live Oak staff there is a school wide parade on the upper playground.* Every grade level team has been collaborating to create their costumes that are top secret! The preschool team has been hard a work making our costumes for the parade! The parade will involve us walking up the ramp to upper campus and entering the parade with the rest of the school. We will walk one lap around the playground then come right back to our classroom. We will not be having a party but it will be a day of fun! *more information to follow about the parade, time, and where you can watch! I'll post again on Instagram soon! Whew, it’s only Wednesday and what a week it has been! Tuesday’s field trip to Walt Disney was a blast! It was an entire day outside playing games and running around on a perfect October day. We rode a school bus that was new for some friends and they were so excited to experience something new and different. At Walt Disney we played on a new play structure with kids from other schools. Games that were set up were: basketball, balancing on blocks, agility course, running between cones with a ball, ribbon dancing and jumping, kicking a soccer ball into a goal, hitting a baseball off a T and running around the bases. There was also an awesome bowling set that was tons more fun than the bowling set that I have in the classroom. Our class seemed to really thrive being outside all day, if possible I would recommend taking our child outside to run and move. Not all learning needs to take place inside, or inside a classroom. Learning can and should happen everywhere and in every environment, it’s important for our kids to learn to generalize the skills that they learn in the classroom to their everyday life. Math skills (colors, shapes, numbers), language (what, who, where, labeling), and motor skills can all be addressed when outside. If you do not have a yard where you live there are other alternatives. Your apartment complex might have a play structure or there are lots of local parks in beautiful San Ramon.
Ok the not so fun part---attendance. If your child will not be attending school for any reason you must call the attendance hotline, 925-803-3199. I greatly appreciate you letting me know when your child will not be coming to school. However, an e-mail to me does not clear or excuse the absence with the office. I am required to take attendance daily and when I mark your child is absent an automated call will go out asking you to call back the office. Along these lines, if you are dropping your child off after 8:15, or Tuesdays after 8:35 you need to go to the front office to get a tardy slip. The front office is not close to our classroom. I suggest parking in the upper parking lot, getting a tardy slip, jumping back into the car to come back down to the lower parking lot. Then knock on the K-1 door to drop off your child. I apologize for any inconvenience. If you have questions regarding the attendance policy please address those concerns to the office. |
